Diaper bags are always a dilemma. I’m never happy with my diaper bag. With my daughter, I obsessively searched for a chic bag and purchased a bag from 2 Red Hens. I loved the colors and the design. But the bowling bag shape ended up being annoying. I found the bag too bulky. About a year later, while shopping at Marshalls, I found I purse from Olivia and Joy that I thought would make the best diaper bag ever. And I got it in both of the colors they had- gray for the colder seasons and creme for summer. The side zipper pockets fit diapers and wipes and the front pockets fit bottles. Sold! Turns out that these are actually diaper bags: Olivia and Joy Portia Diaper Bag. Go me for getting them half price. So these bags are great for when you have an older baby, like over a year old. Moms can use them as a purse and not have to lug around another diaper bag. My only complaint is that the material …
I recently discovered, and thus became obsessed, with Society6. The site has unique and affordable home decor from super cool artists. We’re finally setting up a nursery for our son, but the room we’re using has beautiful knotty pine paneling that I don’t want to paint over. So I’ve been on the hunt for fun wall decor to cover up the paneling and brighten up the room. I don’t want to have an exact theme, or make it too babyish. The Society6 wall tapestries are the perfect solution to my decor dilemma! I chose Pizzasaurus, which is bright yellow tapestry featuring a dinosaur with spikes made out of pizza. This is epic. First, dinosaurs are perfect for a little boy. Second, who doesn’t love pizza? And since my husband works as a food broker for Italian pizza products, I thought this is a cute way to pay homage to him in his son’s room! I can’t wait to hang it up! Definitely check out Society6.com for your home decor needs. They have blankets, throw pillows …
I was searching on Amazon for a new playmat and came across the INCX playmat rug that can pull together and double as a storage organizer. It met all my requirements: 1. Big enough for both kids (It’s 58×58). 2. Adorable and photo opp worthy. 3. Affordable. It’s just $24.99, which is a steal. Other mats this size are going for at least $75 on Amazon. I purchased it and my kids and I love it. My husband actually complemented it too instead of yelling at me for shopping online again. My daughter even likes to use it as a blanket. I didn’t add the string for the storage function because we don’t plan on folding up. I love that it gives my kids a fun and clean space to play, especially one that is free of dog fur and dirty paws, which any pet owner can relate to! I’ll buy this for all friends as they have babies. There are so many cute styles! I basically want another! Great holiday gift, too!
Our family dressed as Care Bears for Halloween. It was adorable and warm, which is important for NJ in October. It started with Grumpy Bear. I saw the onesie for my husband and had to get it cause he actually likes to dress up and our daughter loves Grumpy Bear. Like a good dad, he did it for her. Except the costume was too small so he had to squeeze into it! Opps! Hahah Then I got Genevieve Wonderheart and I wanted the baby and G to have a theme, so this became a family affair! Luca was Bedtime Bear and I was Cheer Bear. I had to hunt for the costumes and buy them months ahead online for the kids. The adult costumes came from Wal-Mart and Target and were much cheaper. But it was well worth it! How cute are we?!
I Just found some really cool black and white pics from circa 2009 thanks to the Shutterfly app on my phone. Everyone needs this app!! Here’s why: It automatically backs up every photo you take with your phone. Goodbye, Dropbox out-of-space messages! You can access all the photos you take with a real camera and upload to Shutterfly from your computer– on your phone. The best part, though? FREE 100 prints FOREVER when you order through the app. Just pay shipping. There are pretty neat deals for free 8×10, magnets and more. I always want physical copies on my photos. And I am OCD about backing them up on apps and external hard drives. Plus, it’s always fun to look back at your hairstyles!
Don’t overlook Ikea when doing your holiday toy shopping this year. There are really great deals on items your kids will love. My favorite thing about shopping online at Ikea is that I can add items to my list and then email my list to my husband to go pick everything up! I save on shipping and he saves time. Here’s what I love for my kids: This table and chair set is compact for small spaces and the price can’t be beat! This activity mat is great for my toddler to do yoga and my infant to crawl around. You’ve seen that cozy infant elephant plush all over the Internet. Here’s Ikea’s huggable version- much cheaper! This roll of drawing paper will bring new excitement to arts and crafts time. You can even trace your toddler and have them decorate the outline. The itemized shopping list even tells you what products are available in your local store.
Get them before they’re gone. Fingerlings, these adorable little monkeys that climb and make noises as you play with them, are poised to be the “it” toy of the 2017 holiday season. Retail prices are rising! If you’re lucky, you can find one in a store for $15. Otherwise, you’re going to spend at least $30 or $40 for one online right now. And at that point, you might as well splurge and get the limited Toys R Us unicorn edition! Is it acceptable if I get that for myself and walk around the office with it?
Just in time for Halloween, Disney released a line of Vampirina plush toys to support the new television show. I was so excited to find these characters in Wal-Mart for only $7.99! I picked up Vampirina and planned on going back to get another the following week. Normally, I would buy them all at once but I knew my husband would yell at me for my “unneccessary” shopping. I decided to get one per week to surprise my daughter. In theory, it was a good plan. But now the dolls are sold out and retailing online for $18 each! What?!!! Lesson learned. Listen to your inner shopaholic. Especially as holiday shopping season nears.
This weekend, G was a preschool toy tester for Melissa and Doug toys at Learning Express. The brand’s mission is to take back play and get kids to shut off their electronics. There were a variety of toys from puzzles and blocks to an ice cream cart and kitchen/diner combo. G preferred the table-top learning types of toys. We left with a letter game that teachers her to spell words and she is doing great! We love the quality and educational content of Melissa and Doug toys. They make learning fun. I especially like the preschool play toys because G isn’t in a classroom environment yet. She can learn while home with her grandma during the day. Other highlights of the day included a Calico Critters playhouse and a scooter. We are just starting to get into Calico Critters and love them!
My husband told me to chill with the Amazon orders so now I drink iced tea on the porch while I wait for my deliveries. JK. But I do suggest you not sign up for Amazon Prime under your husband’s email because he will get notifications every time you place an order.
