Kitchen Chaos

Ever since we started feeding Genevieve chicken, our dogs have been circling her highchair like sharks. Her daddy is away on business, so I wanted to capture this moment for him last night. Baby G was in her highchair, with chicken and carrots in front of her. The dogs were next to her. Lulu, our plott hound (aka “pig hound,” because she eats everything!) actually jumped up on her highchair at one point, so that’s something we need to work on! Now that the scene is set, picture this: Sharks and baby. Mess in progress. I’m taking a picture with my cell phone. Genevieive decides to grab the carrots and fling the container backwards, leaving a mess all over her high chair and on the floor. As I run to get paper towels, Lulu jumps on the counter trying to eat the open chicken jar. I’m a vegetarian and just fed my baby meat!

I’ve been a picky eater my whole life. When I was younger, I used to eat veal all the time until I learned that it came from baby cows.  Then, I pretty much gave up consuming all land animal meat except for chicken. In 2009, I ate my last chicken tender from Burger King and went pescartarian. Since I’m allergic to most raw fruits, vegetables and soy, I eat fish for protein. Ok, and I love seafood. The hubby and I on our wedding day. Everyone asks me if my daughter will be a vegetarian like me or a meat lover like her daddy.  At her six-month doctor’s appointment, we were told she could start eating meat. It hurt my heart a little to feed her chicken, but I’m not going to deny my growing girl protein. When she’s older, she can form her own opinions and until then, my husband can cook her healthy chicken nuggets. But I think she might be more like her mommy anyway, because she won’t eat meat without some carrots on …
